The Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a full-time laboratory professional position and participate as an integral member of Dr. James Stone's research laboratory. The successful candidate may be hired as a Lab and Research Technician 2 or Lab Specialist depending on qualifications and previous experience. The incumbent will perform duties necessary for the execution of required elements of an extramural award that will explore questions related to precision medicine and traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Stone's laboratory focuses upon military relevant traumatic brain injury, and his laboratory is one of the leading programs in the country exploring the neurological correlates of traumatic brain injury in military service members. A component of this work involves studyingpreclinical/translationalmodels of traumatic brain injury to better understand the pathophysiological underpinnings of this disease process.

One of these extramural projects will explore questions related to precision medicine and traumatic brain injury. This position will support these efforts by performing responsibilities critical to the conduct of this program.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Research, compile, and maintain numerical and computerized reports.
  • Assist in evaluation of research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives.
  • Provide basic assistance to researchers in manipulating, computing, and analyzing data
  • Engage in model creation activities.
  • Perform responsibilities involving animal handling.
  • Collect data associated with the research.
  • Perform initial datainterpretation.


  • For Lab and Research Technician 2, the incumbent will perform increasingly complex technical support and handle sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks related to research assistance, data collection, data analytics, animal handling, and report preparation. The incumbent may coordinate and participate in a variety of routine technical duties by providing assistance to clinical and research staff. The Lab and Research Technician 2 will operate under supervision and with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures.

    For the Lab Specialist, the incumbent will provide technical lab support by performing complex lab and research related tasks, such as acting as a specialist on research methods, equipment, and data analysis approaches specific to the investigations. The incumbent will perform responsibilities involving animal handling which might include small animal surgery and engage in more complex model creation activities than the Lab and Research Technician. The Lab Specialist will perform daily activities without supervision.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Lab and Research Technician 2

    Education: Associate's degree

    Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience which may include studentexperience. Bachelor'sdegree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.

    Lab Specialist

    Education: Bachelor's degree.

    Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
