The SIIM Hackathon is a unique event focused on education, networking, and collaboration in the international imaging informatics community. Unlike traditional hackathons, we prioritize fostering a supportive, community-driven environment where participants get to know each other, learn and share ideas. Our hybrid hackathon approach spans both virtual and in-person components and is integrated into the SIIM annual meeting.
Job Description:
We are looking for a passionate and organized Technical Project Manager to oversee the planning and execution of the SIIM Hackathon. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of imaging informatics, enthusiasm for community-building, and a customer-first attitude to their work. This role involves managing hackathon logistics, engaging with volunteers, and ensuring the smooth running of both the virtual and in-person hackathon events.
Key Responsibilities:
Attend bi-weekly hackathon committee calls
Track tasks and manage coordination with volunteers
Oversee hackathon schedule, dependencies, and logistics
Manage virtual assets, including Zoom sessions (e.g., orientation webinars) and the Slack community space
Expand and maintain SIIM Hackathon A) Dataset and B) Platform
Moderate and support the SIIM Hackathon Slack community
Be on-site at SIIM's annual meeting to manage the in-person portion of the hackathon
Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment for participants
Assist with promotion of hackathon on social media
Qualifications:
Proven experience in the imaging informatics domain
Familiarity with standards such as DICOM, HL7 FHIR, and IHE profiles
Exceptional organizational and communication skills
A strong customer service attitude with a commitment to leading with kindness
Passion for continuous learning and trying new approaches
Creativity and flexibility in problem-solving
Ability to travel for on-site event management at the SIIM annual meeting
Desired (but not required) Skills:
Experience in community-building, growth, or maintenance
Knowledge of software development (any language/stack) and documentation
Experience setting up and maintaining cloud-based servers and microservices
Managing meetings, understanding of basic leadership principles
